Fishing

Alberta has everything; walleye, pike, perch, whitefish, numerous species of trout, burbot and more.

Our fishing tradition goes back to before the settlement of Alberta, when explorers did not catch fish for sport, but for food. The abundance that our lakes and streams produced was legendary, and for many years very generous limits were available to residents.

With increasing pressure, and a better understanding of the biology of many fish species, limits have been reduced, and in many areas are catch and release only.

The AFGA is working hard with the province to ensure that populations are managed in such a manner that our future generations will once again be able to take part in fishing as a past time.
